Engine coolant is routed through the bars which takes no electricity and sets a perfect temperature. The high-pressure side to the bars is routed on the back side of the thermostat so you have warm hands in less than 30 seconds upon starting of the engine. When you shut the warm bike off it creates a thermal syphon. Due to the bars being the highest point on the cooling system the bars stay warm for up to 15 minutes after you shut it off.

Many stock dirt bikes do not have a thermostat which is why one is supplied in this kit. When a dirt bike is running in freezing cold temps and at high altitudes it can cause huge swings in the engine coolant temperature. The inline thermostat supplied with this kit will maintain a steady 180-degree operating temperature. This will help solve the huge AFR and engine efficiency problems snow bikes have.

The thermostat has a mechanical auto-adjusting valve that restricts the flow of the coolant system. When the engine coolant is cold, the valve is closed. Once the engine gets up to operating temperature, the valve opens a little, and starts to allow coolant to flow to the radiator. When the engine is hot the valve opens more, allowing the coolant to flow through the radiator to dissipate excess heat. As the engine heats up or cools off due to environment or work load, the valve self-adjusts to maintain a targeted 180°F, the proper engine temperature.

FAQ's

1. Can you control the bar temperature?

Yes, you can control the temperature of the bars with the valve.

2. Are the Raze heated handlebars compatible with hand guards?

Yes, the heated bars work with all hand guards including thread-in insert guards.

3. What if I want to cold start by bike?

Raze offers a secondary bypass line that want to shut their valves 100% and want to cold start their bike. This is not required as long as the valve is cracked on initial cold start. We do not sell this line, but you can find it here on Raze's website.

4. Can I run my Trail Tech Sensor and the heated bars at the same time?

Yes, but you will need to purchase this adapter  from Raze to extend the Trail Tech sensor out far enough to use. This is an accessory item and must be purchased separately. It is not included in the handlebar kit, and we do not carry this adapter.

5. Can I run the heated handle bars, my Trail Tech Sensor and a carb heater at the same time?

No, there are not enough ports to run all three.

6. I already have a thermostat. Do I have to use the one that comes with the kit?

It's recommended you use the thermostat supplied with the kit. There are too many variations of thermostats and fittings for us to say 100% you can use your own.

7. Are the bars weaker than stock bars?

No. Raze uses a third-party testing company to test the strength of their bars. There is no reduction in strength or durability. Click here to read the testing report.

8. What happens if you break or bend the bars in a crash?

If you hit something hard enough to bend the bars far enough to open them up you will most likely be taking a helicopter ride home or the bike will be close to totaled.  If for some freak incident you actually broke one and needed to get home you would take a 9/16, 14mm, or pair of pliers.  Remove the line from the handlebars that comes off the thermostat and hook it directly to the return coupler bypassing the handlebars.  Then fill the radiator with water to get home.

9. Does the direction of water flow matter in the bars?

No.

10. I have bar risers. Will the lines in the kit work?

No. You will need longer lines to accommodate your bar risers.

11. Where do I find install instructions?

Video instructions are available on the Raze Motorsports YouTube Channel. Click the “playlists” tab and select “Install Videos” to find the make and year of your bike.

12. How long does the install take?

Depending on your level of mechanical abilities, it could take anywhere from 1-3 hours. If you do not have experience installing parts on your machine, we recommend taking your bike to a mechanic or dealer to ensure proper installation.
